Some companies scoff at the idea of putting time and effort into boosting employee morale, thinking that boosting productivity is more important. Employees who are happy at their job, however, are more productive, cooperative and likely to put in extra hours when needed. Overall, positive morale is beneficial to both the employees and company. Try these five easy ways to make the office a more enjoyable place for everyone.
1. Design workplace uniforms
Customized workplace uniforms can raise awareness for your company, but they’re also good for building morale. When employees put on a uniform, they can feel like they’re a part of the team. If workplace uniforms are not your company’s style, consider a t-shirt or polo shirt with your brand’s logo that employees can wear on company outings.
2. Encourage breaks
Everyone deserves a break now and then. Plus, sitting in front of a computer all day can cause headaches and fatigue. If employees are allowed to step outside, enjoy a quick walk or even get a cup of coffee from the nearest café, they’re less likely to crash in the afternoon.
3. Recognize and celebrate accomplishments
When your team meets or surpasses its quarterly goals, celebrate the accomplishments of your employees by taking them out for a long lunch. If an employee has shown improvement or worked really hard in the last month, let her or him know you’ve noticed. Employees want to feel valued, and recognizing their achievements is a great way to keep them motivated.
4. Listen and share
When employees have ideas, let them speak up and consider their suggestions seriously. You can also make your team feel valued by sharing your ideas with them and asking for their feedback or opinions. While you make the final decision, employees will feel good knowing they could contribute.
5. Have some fun
The office doesn’t have to be all work and no play. Hold a monthly barbecue in the summer. Take the team out to a baseball game. Even something as simple as team-building exercises can be fun!
Your employees’ satisfaction with their work is essential. The happier employees are at work, the more likely your company will be to grow and enjoy success.
